Sekania beach is not widely known about by human visitors but it is a favourite of the Caretta Caretta turtles and is now the place where the most turtle eggs are laid (over half of all the eggs laid on the island are nested on this beach).
It is part of the National Marine Park of Zakynthos which heavily protects this beach along with the World Wildlife Federation as it has such environmental significance to the endangered Caretta Caretta turtles.
The beach and surrounding area is totally protected. Access is prohibited to visitors during the whole year, all times of day and along the total length of the beach. There is also a sign at the beach entrance informing visitors of this. Only scientific research, specific projects and management measures are allowed in order to preserve the species and its national habitat.
