Wine Festival 2009

ORGANIZED BY THE SOCIAL EVENTS COMMITTEE OF EMPLOYEES OF THE TOWN COUNCIL ALYKES ‘ MORETA’

SUNDAY 9TH August, 2009

8.00 P.M. Opening parade starts from Alikanas crossroads. The parade will be led by horses and carriages carrying panniers of grapes accompanied by the traditional Zakynthian instrument ‘ Tabourlnoniakaro’ played by Fotis Bozikis.
8.30 p.m Arrival at Alykes and starting of the programme with the Greek live performance ‘Karagiozis the Grapevine Owner’ (Shadow puppet).
The local folk dancers ‘Paradosiako’ from the county Elation, self instructed and carrying on the local tradition and ‘Morfes’ led by dance instructor D. Skiadopoulos shall then entertain you for the next hour and a half.

There will be more live music by George Kakoliris and his band and free local wine produced by the five Zakynthian wine merchants, CALINICO WINES, SOLOMOS WINES, UNION OF AGRICULTURAL COOP OF ZAKYNTHOS, COMOUTOS WINES, OINOLPI WINES in their kiosks.
GROPAS BROS, distillery of Zakynthos shall also be offering Zakynthian liquers, ouzo as well as our local water ‘YRIA’.
There will be a stall selling homemade sweet bread (which is made traditionally for special occasions e.g. festivals, weddings, etc.,)and a speciality cheese with the name ‘Dopio’ from Alykes area. The cheese is matured in Olive oil.
A stall with Zakynthian flowers, Bougarini, Granduca etc shall be available.
All stalls with produce are open both days.

MONDAY 10TH August, 2009

7.30 p.m. Grand parade starts from Alikanas crossroads. The parade will be led by carriages and horses carrying traditional panniers of grapes, followed by the town band directed by head musician D. Kladis. Fotis Bozikis, the Tabourlnoniakaro player, Spiros Stamiris with his folk orchestra and members-organizers of our committe will be in the parade.
The parade will proceed to Alykes grounds with dancing and music on the way.
8.30 p.m. In Alykes you are invited to take part in treading the grapes in the traditional way. There will be more music and dancing while the grapes are being trodden.
Folk dancers ‘YAKINTHI’ by instructor Nikos Arvanitakis shall entertain you as well as dancers from the Cultural committee of the village of Skoulikado ‘ Erotokritos’

Spiros Stamiri’s folk band will follow with traditional Zakynthian songs ‘Kandathes’

Tasos Maroudas live music band will keep you company for the rest of the evening.
